Common bugs & fixes

My application doesn't start after installation.

This can have several reasons:

  1. Missing required files: necessary Microsoft runtime files (.NET and DOT files) are not installed on your system.
  2. Step 9 in the installation guide (included in your .zip) was not done properly.

Solution: For reason 1, open the installation guide included in your .zip file — it contains the direct links to download and install the required Microsoft .NET framework files. For reason 2, carefully repeat step 9 from the installation guide. If you have completed both of the above correctly and the application still won't start, open a verification-support ticket.

Crash on activation or after 30 minutes?

A crash on activation is almost always caused by one issue: step 9 of the installation guide was not completed properly. A crash after around 30 minutes occurs when your antivirus real-time protection jumps in.

Solution: Review and ensure you have followed step 9 exactly as described in the installation guide — this step is critical for stability. Or use a solid antivirus where you don't need to add an exclusion. To see the difference between a free and paid antivirus, there is a free trial of a basic license from Kaspersky available.

Ethereal App opens but closes immediately when it updates.

This can have several reasons:

  1. Corrupted .NET files
  2. Corrupted Windows system files
  3. The Terms of Service (ToS) was not accepted in the app

Solution: In this case, the best course of action is a clean reinstall of the application:

  1. Uninstall: Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Find Ethereal Engine and uninstall it.
  2. Refresh dependencies: Before reinstalling, download and re-install the required Microsoft files to ensure they are not corrupted:
  3. Reinstall: Run the original Ethereal installer (the one you first downloaded) to install the application again.
  4. Accept ToS: When you launch the app again, make sure to accept the Terms of Service.

App says "preparing..." and then shows an error message that the expected time took longer than usual.

This error indicates a delayed connection between the Ethereal app and its servers. This can be caused by network issues.

Solution:

  1. Check that step 9 from the installation guide has been completed correctly.
  2. If you are using a VPN, try switching to a different server location or temporarily disabling the VPN to see if it resolves the delay.
  3. You can manually select a different application server within the Ethereal app — this option is located under the Home button.

I have a message: "Ethereal Engine HWID mismatch" or "Ethereal HWID mismatch."

Solution:

Ethereal Engine HWID mismatch: The only way to reset an engine HWID mismatch is to open a verification-support ticket on Discord.

Ethereal HWID mismatch: Your Hardware ID (HWID) does not match the one associated with your account. You can reset this yourself: log in to your account on the Ethereal forum, scroll down on your account/profile page until you find the HWID Reset option, and click it. You usually have a limited number of resets per month.

Error message: "EngineHwid missing, please contact admin."

This error appears in 2 cases:

  1. You are trying to run it on a VM, which is not possible
  2. Your Windows is corrupted and can't provide identification

In case #2, you will need to restore your Windows because this error indicates an issue in Windows itself. You can solve this by doing a hard reset and fresh install of Windows so it can restore the corrupted files.

I have my game on a custom location—what do I need to select, and how do I inject correctly?

You can manually point the app to your game's executable file. Remember, the injection must always be performed while you are in GTA V Story Mode.

  1. Select the correct executable: In the Ethereal app, click on the "?" icon (or designated browse button).
  2. Navigate to your game: Browse to your GTA V installation folder and select the correct .exe file — for GTA V Enhanced or Legacy, select PlayGTAV.exe.
  3. Launch and inject: First, launch GTA V and go into Story Mode. Once you are loaded into Story Mode, return to the Ethereal app and press the Start button to inject. Important: The game must be running and in Story Mode before you press Start.

(To reset the path, just select another launcher then select your launcher again)

Error: "Invalid Request" / "Error Post" / "LoginAPI not found" message

This error almost always means your computer's system time and date are not synchronized correctly.

Solution:

  1. Sync time: Go to Windows Settings > Time & Language > Date & time.
  2. Enable sync: Make sure the "Set time automatically" and "Set time zone automatically" options are turned On. You can also click the "Sync now" button.
  3. Restart: Close the Ethereal app completely and restart it. The error should be resolved.

Error: "DLL files Missing"

This error usually appears when trying to play with BattlEye OFF.

Solution: This means your antivirus (AV) has deleted a required DLL file. Keep in mind that when you want to play with BattlEye off, you need to download and install the specific FSL DLL file yourself. Ensure your antivirus is disabled or has an exception folder set up before downloading and installing it. After adding the DLL, you may need to refresh your files in the Ethereal app settings (gear icon).
